Wine Estates evacuated in Franschhoek due to fire

Wine Estates evacuated in Franschhoek due to fire photo

Franschhoek Pass remains closed due to widespread fires in the Franschhoek region. According to an employee at Mont Rochelle Hotel and Wine Estate several homes as well as Chanteclair &  Le Petite Ferme guest houses have been evacuated last night. Fires also came close to the Le Franschoek Hotel and the Franschhoek Pass Winery.

The overwhelming amount of smoke makes it impossible to see how much damage has been caused and can only be determined once the blaze settles.

Rob Armstong, owner of Haut Espoir reported that several hectors of fynbos have been destroyed in the raging fire. He also stated that they managed to make it through the night unscathed due to the amazing response from the fire crews in Franschhoek.
