Spar toasts bumper wine sales
Spar has highlighted wine as one of its top performing product areas in its latest set of results.
The redeveloped wine portfolio, masterminded by former wine trading controller Laura Jewell MW, achieved a 3.5% sales increase in the most recent quarter of 2010. Spar said this was “spurred by a 151% rise in sales of South African wines during the World Cup and a successful wine festival across the 2,100 licensed stores”.
Spar UK managing director Jerry Marwood said: “On a category basis, we’ve seen strong performances across our fresh food and our wine in particular.
