Winery of the week: Glenelly

Winery of the week: Glenelly

This week Glenelly Estate was the most active wine farm on Spit or Swallow. The high-tech winery is situated just outside Stellenbosch and falls under the Greater Simonsberg region. May de Lencquesaing, then owner of the famous Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (well known classified growth in Bordeaux), purchase the Glenelly Estate in 2003. She believes that the soil and the micro climate have great potential to produce quality wines.

To date 18 Wineflies have been to the estate, from which 56% of them are male and 44% are female. Their visitors are 70% South African based and 30% are from other countries, which include the United States and the United Kingdom.

They have received several positive reviews on Spit or Swallow so far and a few people have also mention the estate and it’s wines on twitter:

“Blackdelilah  @__MrHyde Visited Glenelly today. Blown away by the commitment to SA. Wines def show great potential for a 1st (own grapes) vintage.”

“__MrHyde  @CapeClassics How do you like the Glenelly? Visited them a few days ago. Think their wines show great potential.”

“CapeClassics  This is a beauty! First sip of Glenelly Cab Glass Collection and I’m in love. #Cabernet “
