Auction for Cape Leopard Trust raises staggering amount
A staggering R533 000.00 was raised at the elegant event which took place at the Pierneef à La Motte restaurant at La Motte estate in Franschhoek on the evening of Friday, 19th November to raise funds for the Cape Leopard Trust (CLT).
South African artists, Dylan Lewis and Donald Greig, whose work can be found in the finest collections around the world, were just two of the sponsors that saw collectors book their paddles for the gala dinner and auction which was hosted by Leopard’s Leap Wines. Some of the other stunning auction items included safaris from Wilderness Safaris, Londolozi Game Reserve and Bushmanskloof Wilderness Reserve.
Managed by project manager and principal researcher, Quinton Martins, the Cape Leopard Trust aims to optimally facilitate conservation of this predator through implementing conservation strategies, research projects and tourism initiatives. The CLT also has an extensive educational programme to encourage youths to have a vested interest in the environment. The Cape Leopard Trust is a key role player in conservation. One of its fundamental orientations is towards the concept CEPA: Communication, Education and Public Awareness. It creates valuable partnerships with government, NGO’s and the public, ensuring facilitation of one of its central goals – to disseminate valuable research information in a manner which creates awareness and educates the public about the importance of a healthy eco-system. The leopard is an iconic species helping to draw attention to broader environmental issues.
