Who benefits from the Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger?
Proceeds raised during the Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger will be donated in the form of monthly food donation to the Akani Diepsloot Foundation, the African Children’s Feeding Scheme and Meals on Wheels, all of which do extraordinary work in underprivileged communities.
In the context of the worldwide recession and credit crunch, many charities and good causes across the country aren’t able to continue their good work because there simply isn’t enough money to go around. The result is that, worldwide, sustainability in charities has been seriously compromised. This is the third time the World Chefs Tour Against Hunger is being held and our objective, through Bidvest and Southern Sun’s support and the fundraising initiatives that form part of the Tour, is to ensure that we can sustainably feed people for a duration of time. Our dream is that we can raise enough money to supply our selected charities with food for the next five years, which will allow youngsters to grow, knowing that food is coming in. By donating food, rather than cash, we can ensure that we are in a position to make this kind of commitment.
This will be the biggest fundraising event ever undertaken within the global chefs’ fraternity.
Who are the sponsors of the Tour?
The World Chefs Tour Against Hunger is supported by Bidvest, who has donated R3.6 million to the cause, and Southern Sun, who is providing all the accommodation for the 260 visiting chefs. Funds raised by the Tour will be used to develop feeding schemes for the beneficiary charities and to buy the food needed to sustain those feeding plans for as long as possible.
