Top local musicians jazz up Stellenbosch at Summer Place
The 2nd annual Stellenbosch at Summer Place extravaganza to hit Jozi’s social scene boasts a fever-hot line-up of top local music talent when the country’s granddaddy of wine routes celebrates its 40th anniversary in Hyde Park on Wednesday, 9 November.
Come and savour four decades of Winelands splendour with a song in your heart when the vibrant Stellenbosch group, Manouche, celebrated for their foot-stomping, hip-swinging jazz vibes and fellow townsman, blues beauty Gerald Clark, add rhythmic soul to an evening of fabulous grapes, gourmet food, music and fine art.
Manouche has its roots in American jazz and gypsy rhythm and the six band members have been playing together for the last two years. With unorthodox instrumentation and a good deal of originality they truly make the style their own. Along with their own tunes they also pay homage to artists and composers like George Gershwin, Django Reinhardt, Fats Waller and Édith Piaf.
Gerald Clark is as synonymous to Stellenbosch pride as the town’s oak-lined streets. Food and wine lovers are guaranteed a good time at Stellenbosch at Summer Place when this Blues maestro, better known as the red-headed lead singer of Delta Blue, gets toes tapping with a riveting, live performance straight from the banks of the Mississippi.
For one night only, the fine wine people of the south, together with Sanlam Private Investments, will muster their finest assets for a joyous experience of all things epicurean.
In addition to the music entertainment guests can rub shoulders with 50 top Stellenbosch winemakers, savour more than 100 of the finest wines from the country’s premium wine region and experience top Stellenbosch chefs in action, lending gourmet flair with their signature dishes. Art enthusiasts will also be able to feast their eyes on rare pieces from the Sanlam Art Collection – one of South Africa’s finest and most extensive corporate art collections.
If last year’s sell-out inaugural Stellenbosch at Summer Place is anything to go by, tickets will be flying fast so make sure you get hold of yours today. Tickets are limited and cost R395 per head for wine tasting and gourmet indulgences throughout the evening. The doors open at 18h30.
