I drank chardonnay last night – The Christian Eedes Report
It’s about time that wine competitions in South Africa get a run for their money. Last night Christian Eedes from “What I Drank Last Night” tackled the bull by the horns when he presented his, and possibly the countries, Top 10 Chardonnays.
After tasting 50 South African Chardonnays together with 2 good friends and wine experts, Roland Peens and James Pietersen, the panel unveiled their Top 10 Chardonnays, which was annouched at an informal and fun-filled event at Toro Wine Bar in De Waterkant, Cape Town.
The Top 10 Chardonnays are:
Ataraxia 2009
Glen Carlou 2010
Glen Carlou Quartz Stone 2009
Hamilton Russell Vineyards 2009
Julien Schaal Moutan Vineyards 2010
Laborie Limited Collection 2010
Mulderbosch Barrel Fermented 2009
Oak Valley Elgin 2010
Tokara Reserve Collection Stellenbosch 2010
Tokara Reserve Collection Walker Bay 2009
During the course of the evening guests had the opportunity to taste the top wines and let me tell you, they are not good, they are superb! This might as well be my Top 10 Chardonnays, only missing Uva Mira, which was in any case in the Top 20.
My top wines out of the Top 10:
- Mulderbosch Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2009
- Ateraxia Chardonnay 2009
- Tokara Reserve Collection Walker Bay 2009
