Gauteng savours 40 years of Stellenbosch Winelands splendour
South Africa’s granddaddy of wine tourism celebrated its 40th anniversary up north with Sanlam Private Investments at Stellenbosch at Summer Place, an unrivalled wine, food, music and art extravaganza at Hyde Park.
For one night only, the fine wine people of the south together with Sanlam Private Investments, mustered their finest assets for a joyous experience of all things epicurean from the beloved south, sharing the grapes, gourmet and glamour of the Stellenbosch Wine Routes with Jozi food and wine lovers.
Bentleys and bling met high-class entertainment when more than 350 discerning Egoli socialites rubbed shoulders with 50 top Stellenbosch winemakers and estate owners while delighting in 100 of the finest wines from the country’s premium wine region. Sharing the spotlight with the wines were five exceptional Stellenbosch chefs who lent gourmet flair with their signature dishes. They included Bertus Basson of Overture; Grégory Czarnecki of Waterkloof Restaurant; Terroir’s Michael Broughton; Lucas Carstens, head chef at Simonsig’s signature Cuvée restaurant, and George Jardine from the restaurant at Jordan Wine Estate.
The elegant rooms and spaces at the luxurious Summer Place were transformed into a stylish wine, gourmet and art rendezvous for guests to mingle and indulge all their senses.
This royal affair also included live music performances by the vibrant Stellenbosch group, Manouche, celebrated for their hip-swinging jazz vibes and fellow townsman, blues beauty Gerald Clark, who added rhythmic soul to the evening.
Art enthusiasts were able to feast their eyes on select pieces exhibited by Stefan Hundt, curator of the Sanlam Art Collection, and head of the unique Sanlam Private Investments Art Advisory Service.
