Since 2002 up until 2008, Pinotage sales has increase by 8% and exports increased from 5,5 million  to 9,6 million bottles. The popularity of this proudly South African grape and the positive growth is sales impressed ABSA so much that they have agreed to endorse the Pinotage Association for another 5 years. According to Marcel de Klerk, head of Retail and Business Banking, ABSA is proud to be associated with the Pinotage Association, who has managed to promote the grape into one of South Africa’s most recognised trademarks.

De Klerk also praised the ABSA Top 10 Pinotage competition for acting as a brilliant marketing tool for Pinotage. He sees this competition has the flagship of the association’s activities and praised everyone involved in its success.

Th big news of the day however, was the launch of South Africa’s Pinotage Wine Guide. This comprehensive new booklet offers wine enthusiast a look at the many facets of this internationally renowned grape. Wine Enthusiasts can read all about the history of Pinotage and the special treatment the grape requires in the vineyard and cellar. Apart from that the book also acts as a guide to South Africa’s top Pinotage producers, with handy maps and contact details. Other sections include food and wine pairing suggestions, as well as insights into the annual ABSA Top 10 Competition.

For Pinotage King and chairmain of the Pinotage Association, Beyers Truter, the South Africa’s Pinotage Wine Guide is part of the associations on-going commitment to promote the uniqueness of Pinotage to various audiences. He also sees the booklet as something which will also slake the thirst for wine knowledge among consumers.
