“Devilishly Gorgeous……… Giant Mistake”
It was a bright & sunny day & I had been listening to The World Next Door all morning getting myself psyched up for the day ahead, Parlotones @ D’Aria Wine Estate in the Durbanville Wine Valley.
I arrived with my guest, Jacqueline Cramer, & we were greeted with reserved parking for the media. Our gracious hostess for the day, Liny Kruger got us settled in quite quickly. The patio was decked out with shaded seating, wine bar for tasting & bite sized hors d’oeuvres, perfect for the days event (Colourful). They were serving the Sauvignon Blanc 2011, a blush & various reds. I thought it best to stick to the whites so as not to mix……..Uhm……
A few familiar faces started to emerge, the lovely miss Elana Afrika arrived looking STUNNING as ever, accompanied by Janie Bay. I settled in enjoying the various cheeses on offer, Camembert, Blue (a personal favourite) with the assorted crackers & breadsticks, life couldn’t get better, atleast I thought, before I could blink an eye I saw Kahn & the band walking in (Life’s Design).
I made sure after 5 min of them settling in, to position myself very close to Kahn who was having a chat with Liny at this point. She noticed me in the background & graciously introduced us, now I could have my 10 min for a bit of Q&A. Kahn(Devilishly Gorgeous!) is alot better looking in real life & taller then I expected. Instead of boring you with the usual Q&A bullet point I will summarise what seemed to be like having a conversation with a great friend at a braai. We spoke about his wine label, Giant Mistake. He liked the name (one of his titled tracks) & decided to use the speaker-phone emblem as it is one of his trademarks. The wine can be purchased at Woolworths throughout the country, It’s a big hit in Germany as well. Speaking of trademarks I asked him what was the deal with eye make-up, did it have any meaning. He apparently got it off a movie, Stanley Kubrick’s Clockwork Orange. Back in the day when the Parlotones were not known (was there ever such a time) he used it to help make the band stand out amongst the rest. Their name was inspired by Parlofones Records who have signed up many famous names ranging from the Chemical Brothers all the way through to Lily Allen. They had a camera crew filming us for their own documentary, I was in my element.
They sped off to get ready & I shared a drink with Liny, Elana & a few other media peeps before we head to the show(Beautiful)!
The lawn was scattered with die hard fans, it was almost to good to be true. We stopped for the ever famous “Wine Slushie” as Elana rattled up the sales assistant while I held our fake picnic blanket baby, the wine was definitely hitting home for me at this point. We marked our spot close to the stage when Elana got the call to go backstage VIP, I didn’t want the party to split up :( Through some strange twist of fate I found myself in the VIP room & thought it would be a good idea to help myself to some Vodka & Red Bull that was on the go……(GIANT Mistake!!!!!!)
Shortly after that my memory escapes me(Push Me To The Floor), atleast I got to hear the boys play before my Amnesia kicked in!
I Big thank you to Liny for the invite & for all the effort she put in as well as Huge Shout out to D’Aria for making this event possible! My Parlotones event will be unforgettable!……..uhm…….. most of it anyway! If you’re ever in the area be sure to pop on by. D’Aria is in the process of expanding & I’m sure we can expect big things to come in the near future!
I think next time I’ll just stick to the wine!!!……. ;p
