Haskell Vineyards is proud once again to be a foundation supporter of the Cape Wine Auction, an charity occasion that has quickly morphed into one of the South African wine industry’s most prestigious events.
An invitation last week to Dombeya vineyards to do a blending competition with members of the other media was quite a draw card so we were rather disappointed to discover on arrival that this had been cancelled.
On the back of last week’s news about the terrific John Platter ratings, Haskell is pleased to bring you some more good news following the release of the latest edition of Wine Advocate, the publication of industry titan, Robert Parker Jr.
Wine Advocate reviewer, Neal Martin, described South Africa as “the most dynamic and exciting New World country at the moment”; in particular emphasizing that “…top end there are genuine world-class wines, not by dint of expensive oak or because Angela in the marketing department said so, but because of genuine reasons such as terroir, vine age, talented winemakers and skillful winemaking.”
They are words to warm the hearts of wine loving South Africans. Martin, and The Wine Advocate, are important figures in the world of wine, and their praise is turning the rumble about South African wine into a quiet roar.
The Wine Advocate rates wines based on a 100 point scale. Of the range of impressive reviews, those of the Haskell II 2010 and Haskell Anvil Chardonnay 2012 stood out.
Aromas of white peach and citrus, with floral, flint and hazelnut influences. Palate is framed by youthful acidity, with harmonious fruit and oak balance. Finishes with subtle toasted almond and baked bread after flavours.
Black red colour with purple rim. The nose shows flavours of black cherries, black pepper, chocolate powder and hints of liquorice. The palate has a soft entrance and is full bodied with lovely ripe fruit tannins in perfect harmony with oak nuances.
The Sanlam Private Wealth / Christian Eedes Chardonnay report for 2014 has been released, and we’re delighted to announce that the Haskell Anvil Chardonnay 2012 has once again been judged as being in the Top 10 Chardonnay’s in South Africa.
The 6th annual Haskell Vineyards Open Day will take place on Saturday 29 November 2014 from 12:00 – 17:00. Entry is R20 and includes a tasting glass.
