Vertical Chardonnay and Shiraz tasting at Haskell

An invitation last week to Dombeya vineyards to do a blending competition with members of the other media was quite a draw card so we were rather disappointed to discover on arrival that this had been cancelled.

Haskell in for a big score

On the back of last week’s news about the terrific John Platter ratings, Haskell is pleased to bring you some more good news following the release of the latest edition of Wine Advocate, the publication of industry titan, Robert Parker Jr.

Wine Advocate reviewer, Neal Martin, described South Africa as “the most dynamic and exciting New World country at the moment”; in particular emphasizing that “…top end there are genuine world-class wines, not by dint of expensive oak or because Angela in the marketing department said so, but because of genuine reasons such as terroir, vine age, talented winemakers and skillful winemaking.”

They are words to warm the hearts of wine loving South Africans. Martin, and The Wine Advocate, are important figures in the world of wine, and their praise is turning the rumble about South African wine into a quiet roar.

The Wine Advocate rates wines based on a 100 point scale.  Of the range of impressive reviews, those of the Haskell II 2010 and Haskell Anvil Chardonnay 2012 stood out.

How do you choose between the wines of Haskell?

How do you choose?

Platter’s Wine Guide on Haskell Vineyards

No small task, it must be said. A team of tasters work their way through literally thousands of wines, sorting the wheat from the chaff and finalising an ordered heirarchy of quality for South African wine.

We’re delighted that each and every Haskell wine has this year received 4 1/2 Stars.

Quality and consistency have been two elements that we see as hallmarks of the brand, and these ratings reinforce that we are delivering on that goal. It is a portfolio of wines that we’re rightly proud of.

Of course, they are available for tasting at the Haskell Vineyards cellar door, seven days a week.
