Boplaas Family Vineyards received five gold medals at this year’s Veritas Awards, placing the Calitzdorp winery and distillery among the national competition’s best-performing producers. The medals were for white wine, brandy and port, and selected from just 128 Golds awarded over the weekend.

Boplaas Family Vineyards just received its 20^th five-star rating from the authoritative Platter’s South African wine guide. In addition to this remarkable achievement, the renowned family-owned winery in Calitzdorp saw seven of its wines receive 4,5-stars this year too.

Champion port wine producer Boplaas has shone the spotlight on South African quality ahead of the festive season, urging locals to buy South African. “Port is popular both for gifts and as a beverage traditionally consumed at this time of year,” says Boplaas owner and specialist port-maker Carel Nel. “The best versions are often made right here.”

The outstanding qualities of the Touriga Nacional grape variety has thrust it into the South African wine spotlight following two significant awards presented to Boplaas Family Vineyards in Calitzdorp in recent days. Its Boplaas Touriga Nacional 2019 was first selected as the Best Value Red Wine of the Year by Master of Wine Tim Atkin, in his seminal annual South African report, before going on to be named National Variety Champion at the Novare Terroir Awards.

Boplaas whiskies have re-affirmed the distilling excellence at the heart of renowned Calitzdorp enterprise by claiming three Gold medals and achieving the highest score for a South African whisky at this year’s Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Competition (MIWSC).

Boplaas Port has set a new benchmark in South African wine having achieved a record price at the annual auction of wines by members of the esteemed Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) this weekend.

Boplaas Family Vineyards excelled at this year’s Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards, claiming the Trophy for Best SA Port (Museum Class) as well as seven medals in Double Gold and Gold categories.

The Boplaas Family Distillery has launched a super-premium, single-cask grain whisky that was aged for eight years in port and bourbon barrels.
